1. About the Department of Telugu
Telugu is the study of language and literature based. Literature reflects society, telugu as a mother tongue the oldest literature in telugu reflects the contemporary society. Faculty of arts in Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University offers a complete and holistic study of the discipline of telugu studies through Distance mode. The Department of telugu was established in the year 1982 and has been offering a wide spectrum of specialised and common core courses and foundation courses of languages at Under Graduate and Post Graduate level Programmes. In keeping with the spirit of the ‘Vision & Mission’ of the University, the department has organized its academic programmes to meet the requirements of the diverse sections of the society.
2. Courses-Under Graduate Level
From its inception in 1982, the University has identified telugu as one of the foundation subject at Under Graduation level. The University started offering telugu in its Bachelor’s programme at all study centres initially and presently it is extended to 218 study centres. The BA Programme (BA I, II & III years, CBCS) is offered in Telugu The courses offered in this discipline focus on core subject areas that are expected to provide students with a solid grounding in the study of telugu literature and languages development.
3. Courses-Post Graduation Level
The department has introduced Post Graduation Programme (MA telugu) from the Academic Year 2008-2009 onwards. The programme is spread over to all study centres at district level with average state wide enrolment of students in every Academic Year. The MA programme comprising altogether 10 courses in two years, were structured programs providing to students with an understanding all literary forms and methods of learning and teaching of telugu also The MA I year program comprises of 5 courses: Course-01:praacheena kavitvam; Course-02:aadhunika kavitvam; Course-03: vachana saahityam Course-04:saahitya vimarsha; Course-05:saahitya charitra. The MA II year courses include: Course-06: telugu bhaashaa vikaasamu,; Course-07:telugu vyakarana chandolankaara parichayam; Course-08:telugu bhaashaa saahitya bodhanaa paddatulu; Course-09:jaanapada vijnaanamu; Course-10:maadyamaala rachana. Pg diploma in writing for mass media:this programme consists with 5 courses. It is useful for journalists and writers for their placements.
4. Courses-Research Programme
M.Phil. / Ph.D : The Research Programmes leading to the award of M.Phil. & Ph.D. was introduced from the year (2018-19) batch. Two students were admitted into M.Phil., and Two students into Ph.D. programme. The topics selected for research are varied and of current importance. Some of the broad subject fields on which research is been conducted include –literary experts,and critics, impact of social,economical,historical facts on literature.
5. Profile of the Faculty Members
The pedagogy in Open University is different from conventional university. The central core faculty working in the university has to perform multitasks. They are involved in the planning and designing the programme, developing the self learning course materials, preparation of audio and video lectures, coordinating with internal assessment of students, counselling the students to motivate towards the society and contemporary societical changes.At present, One associate professor is working in the department. Dr. N.Rajani, M.A., m.phil Ph.D., is Associate Professor of telugu studies and she holds In-charge Head of the Department. She has teaching and research experience at university level. Her research interests include modern poetry and modern literatue. . she has Published a Book; presented 30 papers at national and international seminars; 15 papers published in journals and edited books; Attended Symposias, Workshops and annual Conferences of professional bodies. she is the, Member telangana text book committee, open school committee ,and life member of Indian Distance Education Association (IDEA).she is actively involved in academic activities like teaching, conduct the classes, development of self learning materials, audio & video programs, tele-conferences, framing of syllabus and restructuring of UG courses as per CBCS pattern etc. she was Associate Editor of 16(sixteen) UG books and also acted as editor of one book.2 lessons translated in gender sensitisation.
6. Academicians Associated with the Department
Several eminent academicians of the other conventional universities are associated with this department in the processes of curriculum development, course content development and evaluation. The faculty working in the respective colleges where study centres are located are serving as Counsellors to conduct the face to face interactive sessions.
7. Number of Courses
UG – B.A telugu is one of the three optional subjects in the undergraduate programme and it 4 foundation courses in 4 semesters, 6 Semesters-6 core subjects + 2 Electives out of the 4 courses, 2 Skill courses.
PG – M.A., telugu has 10 courses, 5 in I year and 5 in II year.
8. Student Support Arrangement
UG and PG: The student is provided with the Self-Learning Material supplemented by the Audio, Video Lessons and Tele-Conference on specified Sundays. The face to face counselling sessions are conducted on Sundays at the study centers. The department has started Online classes for UG and PG courses on Zoom platform, in view of COVID-19 pandemic. The department would undertake PG course revision work in next year, as per university guidelines.
M.Phil/PhD: Besides the above, one semester classes will be conducted for the research candidates. For two batches.
