1.  DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH AND FOREIGN LANGUAGES
Ever since its inception in 1982, the department has been continually engaged in scholarly pursuits and extension services. The Department of English has a rich tradition of teaching and scholarship. It has produced a considerably large number of research papers, articles, reviews and books on a wide range of literary and socio-cultural issues. The Department is also known for the trend setting creative writers critics and translators like Prof. C. Subba Rao, Prof.C. Pushpa Ramakrishna etc. The alumni of the department had beencontributing to various prestigious educational institutions all over the country. The department has organized various national and international conferences and workshops.
 
2.  PROFILE OF THE FACULTY MEMBERS
The pedagogy in Open University is different from conventional university. The central core faculty working in the university has to perform multitasks. They are involved in the planning and designing the programme, developing the self learning course materials, preparation of audio and video lectures, coordinating with internal assessment of students, counselling to students in both theory and practical sessions and in evaluation process.
At present, the department consists of two members. (1) Associate Professor (2) Assistant Professor
Dr. K. Rani Rajitha Madhuri M.A., Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of English and she holds In-charge Head of the Department. She has teaching and research experience at university level. Her research interests include Indian Writing in English, Afro-American Writing. She has published and presented 24 papers at national and international seminars/conferences; 14 papers published in journals and edited books; Attended Symposia, Workshops and Annual Conferences of professional bodies. She is the Life Member of ELTAI.
She is actively involved in academic activities like teaching, conducting the classes, development of self-learning materials, audio & video programs, tele-conferences, framing of syllabi and restructuring of UG courses as per CBCS pattern etc. She has acted as Course coordinator and Associate Editor for 18 UG books.
Dr. A. Kishore Kumar Reddy M.A., MPhil., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of English. He has teaching and research experience at university level. His research interests include Literary Criticism, Comparative Literature and Translation Studies. He has published and presented 10 papers at national and international seminars/conferences; 08 papers published in journals and edited books; Attended Symposia, Workshops and Annual Conferences of professional bodies.
He is actively involved in academic activities like teaching, conducting the classes, development of self-learning materials, audio & video programs, tele-conferences, framing of syllabi and restructuring of UG courses as per CBCS pattern etc. He has acted as Course coordinator, Course Writer andAssociate Editor for 11 UG and 2 P G books.
 
3.  ACADEMICIANS ASSOCIATED WITH THE DEPARTMENT
Several eminent academicians of the sister conventional universities are associated with this department in the processes of curriculum development, course content development and evaluation. The faculty working in the respective colleges where study centres are located are serving as Counsellors to conduct the face-to-face interactive sessions.
 
4.  COURSES OFFERED
B.A. PROGRAMME IN ENGLISH
The course ensures and assists in the acquisition of knowledge, in connection to Foundation English, Functional English, Language, Literature, Translation Theory and Practice, Creative Writing and Academic Writing. The programme is suitable for facilitation of the best level of education in English Language, Literary and Translation fields and to generate capable resourceful and creative individuals. The duration of the programme is 6 semesters
MA PROGRAMME IN ENGLISH.
The courses in the programme assist in the acquisition of knowledge and skills related to the study of knowledge and skills related to Language and Literature. The programme offers the courses such as “Survey of British Literature”, “American Literature”, “English in India”, “The Growth and Structure of English” and so on. The student evaluation system focuses on assessment of learning outcomes. The duration of programme is 2 years minimum and the maximum period is 6 years.
MPHIL/PHD PROGRAMME IN ENGLISH
The MPhil/PhD programme in English Language and Literature is designed to equip research students with the qualities and aptitudes to produce significant piece of work. The candidates admitted are to go through a compulsory course work in the first year and the Research Design Seminar presentations before the submission of the thesis.
 
5.  Student Support Arrangement
UG and PG: The student is provided with the Self-Learning Material supplemented by the Audio, Video Lessons and Tele-Conference on specified Sundays. The face-to-face counselling sessions are conducted on Sundays at the study centres. The department has started Online classes for UG and PG courses on Zoom platform, in view of COVID-19 pandemic.
M.Phil./PhD:Besides the above, one semester classes will be conducted for the research candida
