1.  About the Department of Statistics
The faculty of Science has eight departments namely Botany, Chemistry, Computer science, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology. The department of Statistics offers Statistics at undergraduate level. The Statistics department was established in 2018 to prepare a Statistical knowledge helps you use the proper methods to collect the data, employ the correct analyses, and effectively present the results. Statistics is a crucial process behind how we make discoveries in science, make decisions based on data, and make predictions. The Statistics program satisfies the U.G.C recommendations for curriculum and takes into account the learning outcomes and community needs. The faculty members are continuously working on updating the curriculum of the programs to meet the latest technologies and the fastly changing society need in the statistical field.
 
2.  Courses-Under Graduate level
The University offers Statistics pattern in both Telugu and English mediums, In the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh of all the Learner centres and RCCs also.
 
3.  Profile of the Faculty Members
The pedagogy in Open University is different from conventional university. The central core faculty working in the university has to perform multitasks. They are involved in the planning and designing the programme, developing the self learning course materials, preparation of audio and video lectures, coordinating with internal assessment of students, counselling to students in both theory and practical sessions and in evaluation process.
 At present, one Asst professor is working in the department.
1. Prof. V.Srinivas, Retired Professor in Mathematics and Coordinator of Statistics.   He has above 26 years of teaching experience in ODL and Regular mode. He was successfully completed his tenure in various administrative position such as In charge Computer Centre. He published 20 research articles in various national and international prior reviewed journals. He edited 5 books and authored above 30 units. He is having rich experience in all most all the areas in distance education.
2. D.K.Vijaya Kumar Asst.Professor of Statistics serving the department since 2019 to till date, with an experience of 4 years. He has associated with 46 courses. He has also translated 30 courses and has produced 24 audio/video lessons, participated in 3 teleconferencing sessions. He has published 4 papers in several books/journals and participated in 2workshops/seminars. He has organized 1 workshops/seminars.
 
4.  Academicians Associated with the Department
  Several eminent academicians of the sister conventional universities are associated with this department in the processes of curriculum development, course content development and evaluation.
 1. Prof.V.V.Haragopal (Retd) Prof.of Statistics, Osmania University, Hyderabad is advisor for the new course of Statistics at our University. He is the Course Team member and framed the curriculum development for entire semesters. He is also Editor for some courses.  He is giving advice to the department to update the course material time to time.
 2. Prof.M.A.Srinivas, Prof.of of Mathematics JNTU, Hyderabad, Prof.M.Chitti Babu, Retd Prof.of Statistics, Andhra University, Vizag, Prof S.M.Subhani, Director, Indian Statistical Institute, Hyderabad is also involved in course work and framed syllabus. The above Professors worked for our university books as Editors.
 3. Senior Faculty Members In different Institutions for writing the books of our univerlity. i.e., Dr.N.Raju, Assoc.Prof., Gurunanak Eng.College, Hyd, Dr.A.Anand, Associate Prof Gayatri Vidya Parishad college for Degree and and PG Courses, Vizag, Dr.Nagaraju, Assoc.Prof, Mallareddy Institutions, Hyd, Dr.J.Srinivas,  Asst.Prof. Kakatiya University, Warangal, Sri Raghavendra Kulakarni, Prinicipal, Nrupatunga Colleg, Hyd.
4. The faculty working in the respective colleges where study centres are located are serving as Counsellors to conduct the face to face interactive sessions.
 
5. Number of Courses
UG – B.Sc Statistics is one of the three optional subjects in the undergraduate programme
6 Semesters-6 core subjects+ 2 Elective out of the 4 courses, 2 Skill development courses
 
6. Student Support Arrangement:
UG: The student is provided with the Self-Learning Material supplemented by the Audio, Video Lessons and Tele-Conference on specified Sundays. The face to face counseling sessions are conducted on Sundays at the study centers. All the Statistics students have to attend the study centers for their  practical training which is mandatory.
 
7. Infrastructure facilities
    Department of Statistics is established in the second floor (right wing) of STML Building having the following:
  • One Large Class room with good ventilation, electrification, working platforms and required furniture.
  • Two staff rooms with attached bath rooms and one counsellor’s room for the use of counsellors during classes.
  • A common toilet for students.
  • RO system drinking water is available for students and staff.
  • Depending on the need of practicals conducted, LCD projection is also available.
  • One computer lab with Wi-Fi facility is available.
