Journalism and Mass Communication
1.  About the Department
The Department is offering Post Graduate, Under Graduate programmes to produce graduates to be leaders of the media industry with a sense of high morality, advanced skills and insightful attitudes in the fields of Journalism, Mass Communication, Public Relations, Advertising and other media related professions.
 As per the guidelines given by the university authorities to implement all UG programmes in semester mode under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). According to the UGC nomenclature Journalism is offered by the Department in place of MCPR as one of the optional at UG level from the Academic Year 2017-18. The Department is also offering M. A. (Journalism and Mass Communication), in semester mode from the Academic Year 2018-19.
 
2.  Under Graduate Level
The Department is offering Journalism as one of the optional subjects at UG level under CBCS pattern from the academic year 2017-18 in English and Telugu Media. The courses offered in this discipline focus on core subject areas of journalism, communication, corporate communication, advertising and public relations that are expected to develop, enhance and improve the quality of human resources in media industry, corporate communications and public relations.

3.  Post Graduate Level
The department has introduced Post Graduation Programme (MA Journalism and Mass Communication) from the Academic Year 2018-19 onwards in   English medium in Semester mode. The two-year MA programme syllabus comprises 20 courses including Project Report, to produce graduates to be leaders of the media industry with a sense of high morality, advanced skills and insightful attitudes in the field of mass media.

4.  Objectives of the Journalism Programmes:
  • To prepare students to be able to work in a mass media organization and to shape them as leaders in the respective chosen profession.
  • To offer programmes and conduct research that is socially relevant
  • To offer programmes, conduct seminars and workshops that will lead to the development, enhancement and improvement of human resources in media industry.
  •  To meet contemporary regional and national needs in media/ corporate communication industry.
  • To produce scholar graduates with strong academic knowledge and professional skills so as to prepare them to join a media / corporate communication / public relations related profession.
  • To produce graduates to be the leaders in journalism, mass communication and social development.
  • To design a road map for succeeding in the journalism profession
5.  Profile of the Faculty Members
 The department is offering Journalism as one of the optional subjects at UG level under CBCS pattern from the academic year 2017-18 and M.A. (Journalism and Mass Communication) programme in the Semester mode from the academic year 2018-19. At present, The Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences is the In-charge Head the Department, besides two contractual teachers have been working in the department.
