1.  About the Department of  Public administration
The Department of Public administration, one of the largest Departments in the Faculty of Social Sciences, was established in the year 1983. Public Administration is one of the most popular subjects of study opted for by distance learners of the Open University. The Department is offering Undergraduate Programmes, Post-graduate Programmes and the Research Programmes. The Department has been adorned by the very eminent personalities such as Prof.V.S.Prasad, Prof.P.Narsaiah, Prof.K.Murali Manohar, Prof.I.Ramabrahmam and Prof C.Venkataiah. They have contributed immensely for the growth of the discipline and also contributed for the practice of public administration in their various capacities. At present the department has qualified and committed faculty with rich teaching, research and administrative experience.
The Department imparts education through its quality Self-instructional material, Radio and Tele-Lessons, Tele- Conferences which are broadcast /telecast through AIR and Doordarshan respectively which are developed in association with the different distinguished experts from highly reputed Universities like IGNOU, Hyderabad Central University, Osmania University, Kakatiya University etc and Institutes of Excellence like National Institute of Rural Development, National Council of Rural Institutes, Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental studies, Centre for Good Governance, Marri Chenna Reddy Institute of Human Resource Development and Non- Governmental Organizations as well. Department organizes seminars, symposia and lectures on contemporary issues from time to time to encourage intellectual discussions and fruitful deliberations.

Public Administration is one of the electives offered at the undergraduate level from the academic year 1984-85. The following courses were offered at Undergraduate level during 1984 to 2017

3Courses-Post Graduation level
The Two Year Postgraduate Programme of the subject which is on offer from the academic year 1993-94 was consisting of Eight (8) Courses, four (4) in the First Year and another Four (4) in the Second Year.  The courses offered in the First Year were common for both the Postgraduate students of Public Administration and Political Science and award of the degree in the respective discipline was done based on their branching off in the Second Year of study. Since 2007 separate programmes are launched in the disciplines of Political Science and Public administration with Five courses in each year of study.  Accordingly the following are the courses offered at Postgraduate Programme in Public Administration

4.  Courses-Research Programmes
M.Phil and Ph D programmes are offered by the Department. Total 4 Phds and 3 M.Phils are awarded in the discipline of Public Administration.
   
5.  Profile of the Faculty Members
The pedagogy in Open University is different from conventional university. The central core faculty working in the university has to perform multitasks. They are involved in the planning and designing the programme, developing the self learning course materials, preparation of audio and video lectures, coordinating with internal assessment of students, counselling to students in both theory and practical sessions and in evaluation process.

6.  Academicians Associated with the Department
Several eminent academicians of the sister conventional universities are associated with this department in the processes of curriculum development, course content development and evaluation. The faculty working in the respective colleges where study centres are located are serving as Counsellors to conduct the face to face interactive sessions.

UG –  B.A Public Administration  is one of the three optional subjects in the undergraduate programme
6 Semesters-6 core subjects+ 2 Elective out of the 4 courses, 2 Skill development courses
          PG –  M.A Public Administration with  10 theory courses.
 
8. Student Support Arrangement:
UG and PG: The student is provided with the Self-Learning Material supplemented by the Audio, Video Lessons and Tele-Conference on specified Sundays. The face to face counseling sessions are conducted on Sundays at the study centers.  
M.Phil/PhD: one semester classes will be conducted in the university for the research students

Department of Public Administration is established in the first floor of Academic Building having the following:

  • One computer lab with Wi-Fi facility
  • RO system drinking water is available for students and staff.
