Vice-Chancellor
Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Open University

Greeting to all,

At the outset, let me express my sincere thanks to all my predecessors under whose leadership this university was nurtured, fostered and developed to be able to emerge itself as one of the prestigious institutions of distance education in the world. I am delighted to share with you that I have taken over charge as vice-chancellor of this university on 25th July 2016. The focus of this university has been to provide high quality materials and learning support services, ever since it was established.

A network of Regional Co-ordination Centres and Study centres spread across the two states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are in the domain of providing delivery services to reach out to the un-reached. I have no hesitation to say that this university as a premier institution of distance education played a significant role to bring legitimacy to the Open Distance Learning (ODL) system in the country.

Now the world is witnessing a sea change on all fronts especially in terms of using ICTs in the field of education. Traditional methods of learning are being replaced with new methods and techniques at a faster rate. It is established that application of new technologies in the teaching-learning processess inculcate the skills in learners to find solutions to the contemporary issues in a positive way. It is time for the institutions of distance learning to embark extensively on technologies to impart skill based education. The orientation of education shall be to build skills in a big way among the students and youth so as to make them globally employable and locally useful work force/human resources.

Keeping the skill development inview, the university is keen to introduce Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) at the undergraduate level from the Academic year 2017-18.  The system makes the students to choose courses of their own choice, which invariably contains, among other things, skill developing courses.

Finally, I feel that ‘to be young, one must keep on learning and to be old one must stop learning’.  Be prepared to learn lifelong.  Lifelong learning is possible through ODL system.  Make use of the system to the fullest possible extent and stay young forever.

With Best Wishes.
